BUILDINGS OPTIONS - SUMMARY OF COVER
What is covered

STANDARD COVER

(Only applicable if you have selected buildings cover on the quotation screen)
Loss or damage to the building(s) of your home by fire, lightning, explosion and earthquake, smoke, riot and civil commotion, malicious acts or vandalism, storm or flood, escape of water from fixed water or fixed heating systems, theft or attempted theft, impact, falling trees, breakage or collapse of external satellite equipment or aerials, subsidence, heave or landslip. Plus:
  • Accidental breakage of fixed glass forming part of the home, including double and secondary glazing and fitted ceramic hobs.
  • Accidental damage to fixed sanitary ware.
  • Accidental damage to underground services to the home, for which you are legally responsible.
  • Loss of rent payable to you or by you or the reasonable cost of temporary accommodation if it is not possible to live in the home because of loss or damage insured by the policy.
  • The cost of architects', surveyors' and other fees.
  • Cover for certain legal responsibilities.

STANDARD COVER PLUS ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE

(Only applicable if you have selected the buildings cover accidental damage option on the quotation screen)
Gives all of the above protection plus accidental damage cover to your buildings.

What is NOT covered

  • The first £50 of any claim unless otherwise specified.
  • The first £1,000 of any claim for subsidence, heave or landslip (or any higher amount shown on the attached quotation).
  • Loss or damage by malicious acts or vandalism, escape of water from fixed water or fixed heating systems, theft or attempted theft or accidental damage whilst the property is unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days or unfurnished for more than 30 consecutive days.
  • Loss or damage by frost.
  • Storm or flood damage to hedges, gates and fences.
  • Impact damage caused by alteration, renovation, maintenance or repair of your home.
  • Damage resulting from coastal or river erosion.
  • Damage resulting from faulty workmanship, defective design or the use of defective materials.
  • Damage to outdoor features (e.g. patios, terraces, paths, drives, walls, gates, fences etc.) by subsidence, heave or landslip unless the foundations beneath the external walls of the home are damaged at the same time by the same cause.
  • Accidental damage caused by any person to whom your home is lent, let or sub-let or by paying guests.
  • Damage caused by wear and tear, vermin, wet or dry-rot or gradually operating cause.
  • Any damage caused directly by the failure of any computer software or hardware to deal correctly with the year 2000 or any other year or by computer virus.

CONTENTS OPTIONS - SUMMARY OF COVER

What is covered

STANDARD COVER

Loss or damage to the contents of your home by fire, lightning, explosion and earthquake, storm or flood, escape of water from fixed water or fixed heating systems, riot and civil commotion, vandalism, theft or attempted theft, subsidence, heave or landslip, falling trees or impact. Plus:
  • Temporary accommodation costs, if your home cannot be lived in as a result of any of the above.
  • Accidental breakage of mirrors, and fixed glass in furniture.
  • Accidental damage to TV, video, audio and personal computer equipment.
  • Loss of metered water.
  • Loss or damage of contents in the open up to £500 per claim, to external satellite equipment up to £250 and locks and keys up to £250.
  • Personal cash and credit cards in the home up to £200.
  • Visitors personal belongings up to £250.
  • Death by accident, fire or assault up to £5,000.
  • Removals in transit by professional removers.
  • Cover for certain legal responsibilities.


High Risk Items

A limit applies to the cover provided for televisions, personal computers, audio and video equipment, photographic equipment, jewellery, items made from precious metal, clocks, watches, furs, pictures, works of art and stamp or coin collections. The overall limit for High Risk Items is £0 of which the single most valuable high risk item must not exceed £

STANDARD COVER PLUS ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE

(Only applicable if you have selected the contents cover accidental damage option on the quotation screen)
Gives all the above protection plus accidental damage cover to home contents.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

(IMPORTANT: each option is only applicable if you have selected that option on the quotation screen. We have included all options here so that you can see what cover is available).

Personal Belongings Option

  • Loss or damage to personal belongings, anywhere in the British Isles and outside of the British Isles for up to 60 days in any one insurance period. Up to £3,000, unless a lower amount is shown on the attached quotation. An overall limit of £1,000 applies for losses from an unattended vehicle, unless a lower amount is shown on the attached quotation.
  • Loss of personal cash and loss and fraudulent use of credit cards up to £500.

Pedal Cycles

  • Loss or damage to pedal cycles anywhere in the British Isles, and outside of the British Isles for up to 60 days in any one insurance period. Up to £500 per bike (in some instances a lower limit of up to £250 per cycle may apply).
  • Loss or damage is excluded while any pedal cycle is being used for racing, or is left in a public place unless the pedal cycle is securely locked to an immovable object or left in a building.

Freezer Food

  • The cost of replacing damaged freezer food following a change in temperature in the freezer or escaping refrigerant up to £250. The freezer must not be over 15 years old. Please note a £25 excess is applicable to freezer food claims.
  • Loss or damage to personal belongings, cash and credit cards, pedal cycles, freezer food and clerical business use will not apply while your home is unoccupied for more than 60 days or unfurnished for more than 30 days.

Legal expenses

  • Cover up to £25,000 in total for any one claim.


What is NOT covered

  • The first £50 of any claim unless otherwise specified.
  • Loss or damage by water escaping from fixed water or fixed heating systems, vandalism, theft or attempted theft whilst your home is unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days or unfurnished for more than 30 consecutive days.
  • Vandalism, theft or attempted theft by any of your family.
  • More than £2,000 theft or attempted theft from garages or outbuildings for any one claim.
  • Impact loss or damage caused by pets.
  • Impact damage caused by alteration, renovation, maintenance or repair of the home.
  • Accidental Damage to clothing (unless you have selected the Personal Belongings option).
  • Damage caused by wear and tear, insects, vermin, fungus, or weather (other than storm or flood), cleaning, dyeing, repairing, restoring, breakdown, or gradually operating cause. Accidental Damage or loss of contact lenses.
  • Motorised or mechanically propelled or assisted vehicles, boats, sailboards, surfboards, jet skis, aircraft, gliders, hang gliders, caravans, trailers or any parts or accessories for any of these items.
  • Loss or damage to business contents, business money, stock or trade samples or anything used for trade and business purposes (unless you have selected the Clerical Business Use option).
  • Any damage caused directly by the failure of any computer software or hardware to deal correctly with the year 2000 or any other year or by computer viruses.

This is only a brief summary of the cover provided. Full details of the cover and what is not covered are contained in the policy booklet, which is available upon request and will be sent to you when the application procedures are completed. If you are not completely satisfied with the insurance we have summarised, and you let us know that you do not wish to continue with the policy, in writing, within 15 days of the start date, all cover will be cancelled without charge provided that a claim has not been made.


ACTIONS WE EXPECT YOU TO TAKE

In order to stay covered, we expect you to undertake the following:

Buildings and/or Contents Insurance:

  1. Take reasonable precautions to safeguard your property
  2. Maintain your property in a reasonably good state of repair
  3. Pay the premiums on time
  4. Inform us of key changes in circumstances including:
   a) A permanent change of address
   b) If your home is to be unoccupied for more than 60 days (30 days if unfurnished)
   c) If your home is to be let out to tenants or shared with lodgers
   d) If you use your home for business or professional purposes
   e) If your home is not in a good state of repair or has major changes such as an extension or conversion to the building
   f) The conviction, or pending prosecution, of you or any member of your family for any criminal offence (other than motoringoffences)
